I wanted to pass along a helpful tip. Often I am faced with the task to convert Degrees Minutes Second (DMS) to Decimals on my mapping program or GPS. For example, I was in the field the other day and needed to take a waypoint. A waypoint is a reference point in physical space used for purposes of navigation, otherwise known as a landmark. We were splitting a tract of land and the seller and buyer had decided on a good dividing point. I took out my smart phone and took a waypoint. When I got home I noticed the waypoint was in a Decimal format, see the following.

I like to use Degrees Minutes Seconds when doing map work and have my mapping program set to use this format. Notice the DMS display in the upper right hand corner.
Never fear there is a link to do the conversion. See the following.

The link looks like this.
